Judges 3:12
“The children of Israel again did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and Yahweh strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight.”
What does Judges 3:12 mean?
After a period of peace, the Israelites drifted back into disobedience, and God allowed the Moabite king Eglon to overpower them as a consequence. This wasn't punishment in the sense of random cruelty, but rather the natural result of turning away from God's guidance and protection. When we move away from what's right, we lose the strength and wisdom that come from staying close to God. The pattern here reflects something deeply human: our choices have real consequences, and sometimes God lets us experience those consequences so we'll recognize what we've lost and turn back toward him.
