Judges 16:24
“When the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said, “Our god has delivered our enemy and the destroyer of our country, who has slain many of us, into our hand.””
What does Judges 16:24 mean?
The Philistines are celebrating in their temple, convinced their god Dagon has handed them victory by capturing Samson. They credit their idol with destroying the man who raided their towns and killed so many of their people. What they don't see in this moment is that God is still working, even in Samson's captivity, and their celebration will be short-lived. This verse shows how easily we can misread a situation when we only see the surface, thinking we've won when God may have something entirely different in mind.
