What does Joshua 7:16 mean?

After Israel's defeat in battle, Joshua knew something was seriously wrong. God had promised them victory, but they'd been beaten, and Joshua needed to find out why. This verse shows him waking early to investigate, systematically narrowing down the problem tribe by tribe, like following a thread through a tangle. When Judah is identified, it sets up the discovery that someone in that tribe has secretly taken plunder that belonged to God, breaking their covenant commitment and bringing defeat on the whole community. This reminds us that sometimes when things fall apart in our lives or communities, we need to be willing to look honestly at what's wrong rather than just move forward pretending everything is fine. Joshua's careful, methodical approach shows respect for the gravity of the situation.
