Joshua 4:23
“For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until you had crossed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had crossed over;”
What does Joshua 4:23 mean?
When the Israelites crossed the Jordan River into the land God had promised them, the waters miraculously stopped flowing, creating a dry path for two million people and their livestock. This verse reminds them (and us) that God had done something equally remarkable forty years earlier at the Red Sea, when they escaped slavery in Egypt. By connecting these two moments, Joshua is essentially saying: "Look at what God did then, and look at what God is doing now. This is the same faithful God keeping the same promises." For people standing on the edge of a new chapter in their lives, it's a powerful reminder that God's track record matters. Whatever we're facing today, we can trust that the God who came through before will come through again.
