Joshua 4:2
““Take twelve men out of the people, a man out of every tribe,”
What does Joshua 4:2 mean?
God is instructing Joshua to select one representative from each of Israel's twelve tribes to carry out a specific task (which is revealed in the following verses, where they retrieve stones from the Jordan River). By choosing one person from every tribe, Joshua ensures that all of Israel participates in this memorial act together, making it a shared experience rather than the work of a few.
