What does Joshua 4:16 mean?

After the Israelites crossed the Jordan River on dry ground, the priests carrying the ark—the sacred chest holding God's covenant with Israel—had remained in the riverbed as a sign of God's protection. Now that everyone else had safely reached the other side, Joshua gives this command to have the priests come up as well. Once they stepped out onto dry land, the river would rush back to its normal flow, completing the miracle and showing that God's presence had made the crossing possible. This moment marks the full transition from the wilderness into the promised land, with God's power demonstrated for all to witness.
