“For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Yahweh commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over.”
What does Joshua 4:10 mean?
When the Israelites crossed the Jordan River into the promised land, the priests carried the ark of the covenant and stood right in the middle of the riverbed while the entire nation passed by them. They didn't move until everyone had safely reached the other side and Joshua had finished telling the people everything God wanted them to hear. This shows how the priests literally held their ground, keeping the miraculous pathway open through the water until the job was completely done. There's something deeply moving about their steady faithfulness in that moment, standing firm so others could move forward safely.
