Joshua 2:18
“Behold, when we come into the land, tie this line of scarlet thread in the window which you used to let us down. Gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household.”
What does Joshua 2:18 mean?
The spies are giving Rahab a lifeline, quite literally. The scarlet cord she used to help them escape down the city wall becomes a sign of protection, a way for the Israelite soldiers to identify her home when they return to conquer Jericho and know not to harm anyone inside. It's a beautiful picture of how one act of faith and kindness toward God's people creates a path to safety. But notice what else matters: Rahab doesn't just save herself. She's told to gather everyone she loves, her entire household, under that same protection. There's something deeply human here about refuge that extends to those we're connected to, not just ourselves alone. She can't guarantee her family members share her faith, yet she offers them the chance to be saved alongside her, and they accept it.
