“Out of the part of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon; for the portion of the children of Judah was too much for them. Therefore the children of Simeon had inheritance in the middle of their inheritance.”
What does Joshua 19:9 mean?
When the Israelites divided up the promised land, Judah received such a large territory that there was room to spare, so Simeon's tribe was given cities and towns scattered throughout Judah's region instead of having their own separate area. This wasn't a punishment but a practical solution, and it meant the two tribes lived closely together and could support one another.
