What does Joshua 18:6 mean?

Joshua is organizing the distribution of the promised land among the Israelite tribes, and this verse shows him asking representatives from the remaining tribes to map out the territory so he can divide it fairly. The casting of lots wasn't random chance to them, but a sacred process believed to reflect God's will, kind of like how we might pray and then make a decision. The message is that Joshua wanted to be thorough and thoughtful in this massive undertaking, doing the practical work of surveying while also trusting God to guide the outcome. It speaks to something many of us face: we're called to do our part (the surveying, the careful planning) while also letting go of the results and trusting that God is involved in where we end up.
