Joshua 16:5

This was the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families. The border of their inheritance eastward was Ataroth Addar, to Beth Horon the upper.

What does Joshua 16:5 mean?

The tribe of Ephraim is being assigned their land in Canaan, and this verse marks the beginning of those boundary descriptions. The eastern edge of their territory started at specific towns and landmarks that the original readers would have recognized as real places. Understanding where these borders fell mattered deeply because it defined where each family could settle, farm, and build their future after generations of wandering in the wilderness. For us reading this now, it's a reminder that God's promise wasn't vague or uncertain, but concrete and specific, given with real boundaries in a real place.
