Joshua 15:63

As for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah couldn’t drive them out; but the Jebusites live with the children of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.

What does Joshua 15:63 mean?

After Joshua's conquest of Canaan, the tribe of Judah didn't manage to fully take Jerusalem from the Jebusites who lived there. Instead of a complete victory, the two groups ended up sharing the city, with the Jebusites remaining as residents among Judah's people. This verse is honest about an incomplete conquest, acknowledging that not every promise was fulfilled immediately or completely during this era. It's a reminder that real life rarely matches our ideals, and sometimes we live alongside unfinished business, which is something many of us understand from our own experience.
