Joshua 15:1

What does Joshua 15:1 mean?
After the Israelites conquered the land, Joshua distributed the territory among the twelve tribes by casting lots, trusting God to guide the division. Judah received the southern portion of Canaan, with boundaries stretching from the Mediterranean region down toward Edom (the land of Esau's descendants) and the harsh wilderness of Zin. This wasn't a random or unfair distribution, but rather God's way of giving each tribe their promised inheritance. The detailed boundary descriptions throughout Joshua might seem tedious to read today, but they mattered deeply to ancient Israel as official records of what belonged to whom, giving each community security and a genuine home in the land God had promised their ancestors.
