What does Joshua 13:7 mean?
After Israel's long journey to the promised land, Joshua is instructed to allocate territory among the tribes. This wasn't simply about drawing lines on a map, but about fulfilling God's ancient promises to Abraham and giving each family group a permanent home where they could settle, farm, and build their lives. The mention of nine and a half tribes (rather than all twelve) reflects an earlier decision: the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh had already received their land east of the Jordan River because it suited their livestock herds. So Joshua's task was to fairly distribute the western territories to those still waiting. It's a practical reminder that God cares about concrete things like security, home, and inheritance, and that fulfilling His promises sometimes involves careful work and fair dealing among His people.
