Joshua 10:4
““Come up to me and help me. Let us strike Gibeon; for they have made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.””
What does Joshua 10:4 mean?
The king of Jerusalem is calling his neighboring rulers to join him in attacking Gibeon, a city that has just made a peace treaty with Joshua's army. What bothers the king isn't military strength but loyalty: he sees Gibeon's choice to negotiate rather than fight as a threat to the alliance of Canaanite kings, and he fears losing control of the region if other cities follow that example. His plea shows how desperate leaders can become when they sense their power slipping away, and it sets up the larger story where God demonstrates that peace with His people is far safer than resistance against them.
