What does John 9:32 mean?

The man born blind (or perhaps his neighbors speaking on his behalf) is amazed at what Jesus just did. In that time, there were no medical procedures that could restore sight to someone born without it, so this wasn't just impressive—it seemed impossible, even by the standards of all recorded history. The statement reflects genuine astonishment that the boundary between what's medically impossible and what's real has just been crossed. It's a moment where people recognize they've witnessed something that doesn't fit into their understanding of how the world works, which is exactly the kind of sign that makes them reconsider who Jesus might be.
