What does John 8:58 mean?
Jesus is making a stunning claim about his eternal nature here. When he says "I AM," he's using the same sacred name God revealed to Moses at the burning bush, the name so holy that Jewish people wouldn't even pronounce it aloud. By applying it to himself, Jesus is saying he exists outside of time altogether, not just that he was alive before Abraham but that he has always existed and always will.
