What does John 8:31 mean?

Jesus is speaking to people who've already begun to trust in him, but he's pushing them deeper. "Remaining in his word" means more than a one-time decision; it's about letting his teaching shape how you think and live over time. He's saying that real discipleship isn't just intellectual agreement, but a sustained commitment to living by what he teaches. The word "truly" suggests there's a difference between casual belief and the genuine article, and genuine faith shows itself through ongoing trust and obedience. This is an invitation and a challenge wrapped together, calling people to let Jesus's words take root in their lives and keep growing there.
