John 8:15
“You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.”
What does John 8:15 mean?
Jesus is pointing out a fundamental difference between how people naturally operate and how he approaches others. When we judge "according to the flesh," we're making snap decisions based on outward appearances, reputation, social status, or what we can immediately see and measure, much like sizing someone up in a glance. Jesus is saying he doesn't operate that way, that his perspective goes deeper than surface judgments. This doesn't mean Jesus was indifferent to right and wrong, but rather that he engaged with people's full stories, circumstances, and hearts rather than reducing them to quick verdicts. For those of us struggling under the weight of how others have sized us up or labeled us, this offers real comfort: there's a way of seeing that goes beyond our failures, appearances, or what people assume about us based on limited information.
