What does John 8:10 mean?

Jesus looks at this woman caught in adultery with genuine compassion, and his question cuts to the heart of what just happened. Her accusers, who moments before were ready to stone her according to the law, have all slipped away, convicted by Jesus's challenge about their own sinfulness. His words aren't dismissing her actions or the seriousness of what she did, but rather acknowledging that she now stands alone, without the execution that the law prescribed. In asking "where are your accusers," Jesus is pointing out the gap between judgment and mercy, between law and grace, inviting her to experience something other than condemnation.
