What does John 7:8 mean?

Jesus is telling his brothers to go ahead to the Festival of Tabernacles without him. He's explaining that the right moment for him to go hasn't arrived yet, and his mission operates on a different timeline than ordinary festival attendance. There's tension here between what his family expects and what Jesus knows about God's purposes for his life. Later in this same chapter, Jesus does go to the feast, but he goes quietly and on his own terms, showing that he's following his Father's direction rather than family or social pressure.
