John 3:34
“For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.”
What does John 3:34 mean?
When Jesus speaks, he's speaking God's own words, not his own ideas or opinions. This is John's way of affirming that Jesus and God are so perfectly united that what comes from Jesus's mouth comes directly from God's heart. The second part of the verse adds that God poured out the Holy Spirit on Jesus without any limit or restriction, which is why his words carry such power and truth. For those of us who follow Jesus, this verse invites us to trust that when we listen to him, we're actually listening to God himself speaking to us.
