What does John 3:24 mean?

This short note appears in the middle of John's account of Jesus and John the Baptist's ministries overlapping. It's a simple historical marker telling us that when John the Baptist was baptizing people and pointing them toward Jesus, he hadn't yet been arrested by King Herod. This detail matters because it shows there was a window of time when both John and Jesus were actively teaching and baptizing, working in different areas, before John's imprisonment cut short his ministry. The Gospel writer includes it to help readers understand the timeline and avoid confusion about when events happened.
