John 21:6
“He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” They cast it therefore, and now they weren’t able to draw it in for the multitude of fish.”
What does John 21:6 mean?
After a long night of fruitless fishing, the disciples are exhausted and discouraged. Jesus appears on the shore but they don't recognize him, and he offers them a simple instruction: try the other side of the boat. What seems like a small adjustment becomes everything, and suddenly their net is so full they can barely haul it in. This moment captures something true about following Jesus, even when we can't see clearly who he is. Sometimes the shift we need isn't complicated, yet it requires us to trust a voice calling from outside our situation and to act despite our weariness. The overwhelming catch isn't just a practical solution to their hunger, it's a sign that abundance comes through obedience, even when we're at the end of our rope and doubt everything makes sense.
