John 21:25

There are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they would all be written, I suppose that even the world itself wouldn’t have room for the books that would be written.

What does John 21:25 mean?

John ends his gospel with a humbling reminder: what we have in these four gospels is just a glimpse of Jesus's full story. The disciples witnessed countless moments, conversations, and miracles over three years, but only a fraction made it onto these pages. Rather than feeling frustrated that we don't have everything, we can trust that the Holy Spirit guided the writers to include exactly what we need to know him, believe in him, and follow him. This verse also invites us to recognize that Jesus's impact didn't stop when the gospels ended—his work continues in the world today, in ways we get to witness and participate in ourselves.
