What does John 21:12 mean?
After Jesus had risen from the dead, the disciples encountered him by the sea, though something was different about him—they didn't immediately recognize him. When he invited them to share a meal, they suddenly knew who he was, yet they felt almost afraid to ask outright, "Are you really Jesus?" There's something tender in that moment: they wanted confirmation but were held back by awe and perhaps uncertainty about how to address him in his new, resurrected form. What makes this detail important is that Jesus had shared countless meals with his disciples before, and now he was offering breakfast again. Even though they couldn't explain exactly how they knew, something in that familiar gesture of hospitality and care made them certain of his identity.
