What does John 21:1 mean?

Peter and the other disciples had scattered after Jesus's crucifixion, returning to what they knew: fishing on the Sea of Tiberias (another name for the Sea of Galilee). This verse marks a turning point where the risen Jesus comes looking for them, not in a grand public moment but in an ordinary place where they were going about their lives. It's a gentle reminder that Jesus meets us where we actually are, even when we've retreated into routine or doubt after a season of heartbreak. The fact that Jesus "revealed himself" suggests they didn't immediately recognize him, which speaks to how different and real his resurrected body was, yet he was unmistakably still Jesus.
