What does John 2:24 mean?
Jesus recognized something in people that went beyond their surface enthusiasm. Even when crowds gathered around him with genuine interest, he maintained a kind of protective distance, understanding that human commitment is often fragile and mixed with self-interest. This comes right after his first miracle at a wedding, when many people believed in him simply because they witnessed something spectacular. Jesus understood that belief rooted only in signs and wonders, rather than in a deeper trust in who he truly was, wouldn't sustain them through harder times.
