John 2:17
“His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will eat me up.””
What does John 2:17 mean?
When Jesus cleared the temple, overturning tables and driving out those who were buying and selling, his followers suddenly understood something deeper about him. They recalled a line from Psalm 69 about passion for God's house consuming someone entirely, like a fire that burns through everything else. This wasn't just anger in the moment, but a glimpse of how seriously Jesus took the sacred space meant for prayer and worship. The disciples were beginning to see that his commitment to God's purposes ran so deep it shaped every part of who he was.
