What does John 19:2 mean?

The soldiers who crucified Jesus were mocking him by treating him like a fake king. They wove thorns into a crown (which would have been painful against his head) and draped him in purple cloth, the color associated with royalty, all as a cruel joke. This scene shows the depth of his suffering and humiliation, but it also reveals something profound: Jesus was actually a king, yet he endured this mockery without fighting back. For those of us who follow him, it's a stunning picture of love willing to be despised and rejected for our sake.
