John 17:14
“I have given them your word. The world hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”
What does John 17:14 mean?
Jesus is acknowledging something hard: when you genuinely belong to God and live by his truth, the world around you won't always understand or accept you. He's not saying Christians should be difficult or judgmental, but rather that living according to God's values naturally creates some distance from a world built on different priorities. The comfort here is that Jesus experienced this rejection himself, so he's not asking his followers to endure anything he didn't first endure. You're not alone in feeling misunderstood or out of step with the culture around you, and that tension isn't a sign you're doing something wrong—it can actually be a sign you're taking your faith seriously.
