John 17:11

I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them through your name which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are.

What does John 17:11 mean?

Jesus is praying for his disciples right before his arrest, acknowledging that he's about to leave them physically while they remain in a hostile world. His request to God is straightforward: protect them through the power of God's name, the same protective power Jesus himself has received. He's asking for something beyond mere safety, though, pointing toward a deeper unity among believers that mirrors the perfect unity Jesus shares with God the Father. This prayer reminds us that we aren't abandoned when things get hard, and that our connection to God and to each other can remain strong even when circumstances try to pull us apart.
