John 1:7
βThe same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.β
What does John 1:7 mean?
John the Baptist's whole purpose was to point people toward Jesus, the true light of the world. He wasn't there to draw attention to himself or to be the savior, but simply to help others see and recognize who Jesus really was. Think of him as someone standing in a dark room, not as the source of light himself, but directing everyone's gaze toward the window where the real light is shining through. His testimony was an act of love, making space for others to encounter Jesus and find faith for themselves.
