Joel 2:23
““Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in Yahweh, your God; for he gives you the former rain in just measure, and he causes the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.”
What does Joel 2:23 mean?
In Joel's time, farmers depended completely on two rainy seasons—the "former" rains in fall (to soften the ground for planting) and the "latter" rains in spring (to fill out the growing grain). When these rains failed, people starved. So when the prophet calls people to rejoice because God is sending both rains "in just measure," he's announcing the end of a devastating drought and restoration of everything that makes life possible.
