What does Job 9:33 mean?
Job is expressing the crushing loneliness of his suffering, especially in his dispute with God. He wishes there were someone neutral, powerful enough to stand between himself and the Almighty, someone who could touch them both and mediate their conflict. What makes this so poignant is that Job feels entirely outmatched: God has all the power, and Job has no advocate, no referee who could make God listen to his side. This captures something many of us feel in our darkest moments, when we're angry at God or confused by our circumstances and wonder if anyone will ever understand both our pain and God's seeming distance from it. Job's honesty here, though born from despair, was actually radical for his time, because it spoke his raw feelings without pretense.
