What does Job 9:28 mean?
Job is expressing the weight of living under constant pain, where suffering itself has become something to dread. He's caught in a spiral: his troubles are so overwhelming that he's anxious about the troubles themselves, creating a kind of doubled anguish. And beneath it all is a deeper fear that God sees him as guilty, that his pain is punishment he deserves rather than something God might hold with compassion. This verse captures something true about despair. When we're broken enough, we don't just hurt from our circumstances, we hurt from the fear that we're being crushed for a reason, that God has turned his face away. Job's honesty here is actually a gift to anyone who's felt similarly.
