Job 8:10

What does Job 8:10 mean?
Bildad, Job's friend, is appealing to the wisdom of previous generations—the idea that those who came before us learned hard truths through their own suffering and left behind insights we can trust. He's essentially saying: the elders of old discovered real things about how God works, and shouldn't their accumulated experience and honest reflections guide us when we're confused or hurting? The underlying thought is comforting in one way: we're not the first to suffer, and we can learn from others' journeys. But there's also something sobering here, because Bildad is using this to suggest Job must have done something wrong (since that's what tradition taught about suffering). Sometimes the "wisdom of the ages" can blind us to what's actually true in front of us, especially when we're quick to judge someone else's pain rather than simply listening with an open heart.
