What does Job 7:13 mean?

Job is describing a moment when he tries to find relief from his suffering by lying down to rest. He's grasping at the simple hope that sleep or comfort might give him a break from his pain and distress. What makes this poignant is that the very next verse shows this hope crumbling—his dreams become nightmares instead. Job captures something many of us recognize in hard times: that longing for rest when our bodies and minds are worn down, and the disappointment when even that small comfort doesn't come through. This rawness is part of why Job's honesty feels so real and relatable.
