What does Job 6:19 mean?
Job is describing how merchants traveling through the desert anticipated meeting these caravans, expecting to find water and help—but were disappointed when they arrived at a dry riverbed instead. He's using this image of dashed hopes to illustrate his own despair: just as those travelers counted on finding relief and found nothing, Job's friends came expecting to help him but brought only emptiness and hollow words.
