Job 5:19
“He will deliver you in six troubles; yes, in seven no evil shall touch you.”
What does Job 5:19 mean?
When Eliphaz speaks these words to Job, he's describing how God protects the faithful through life's hardships. The numbers six and seven aren't meant to be counted literally, but rather suggest "many times over" or "completely"—a way of saying God's protection covers us through trouble after trouble, with no limit to his care. What makes this verse tender is that it acknowledges trouble will come. The point isn't that believers escape difficulty, but that we're not abandoned in it. For someone in the middle of their own suffering, this offers the comfort that being faithful doesn't mean being isolated or forgotten, even when the struggles pile up.
