Job 38:6
βWhereupon were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone,β
What does Job 38:6 mean?
God is asking Job a series of humbling questions about creation, specifically about the earth's foundations and cornerstone. These aren't questions expecting answers, but rather a way of reminding Job that he wasn't present when the world was made and therefore couldn't possibly understand all of God's workings. When Job has been demanding explanations for his suffering, God responds by pointing out how little Job understands about even the most basic structure of existence. It's a compassionate rebuke that invites Job to recognize the limits of human knowledge and to trust in a creator whose wisdom and purposes are vastly larger than any single person's experience.
