Job 38:35
“Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are?’”
What does Job 38:35 mean?
God is asking Job whether he commands the lightning and can make it obey him. In the context of Job's long suffering and complaints, this question is part of God's powerful response from the whirlwind, where He challenges Job to consider all the forces of nature that operate far beyond human control or understanding. The point isn't to shame Job, but to remind him that there's a vast ordering to creation that God maintains, one that doesn't depend on our comprehension or permission. When we're in deep pain and demanding answers, this verse gently suggests that some things operate on a scale bigger than our personal struggles, and that can actually be comforting: we're not responsible for holding the world together, and neither are our problems holding it back.
