What does Job 36:21 mean?
Elihu, one of Job's friends, is warning Job here that clinging to sin or wrongdoing can actually be worse than enduring the hardship Job is experiencing. The logic is stark: if Job keeps insisting on his own way or harboring anger against God, he's essentially choosing a deeper kind of suffering over the temporary pain he's facing. It's a challenge to let go of whatever self-protective defenses or grievances might be keeping Job stuck. The point isn't that Job deserves what's happening to him, but rather that refusing to release bitterness or self-justification can trap us in our own personal affliction long after the original trouble might pass.
