Job 32:22
“For I don’t know how to give flattering titles; or else my Maker would soon take me away.”
What does Job 32:22 mean?
Elihu, a younger man who has been listening to Job and his friends debate suffering, is about to speak up. He's saying that he won't resort to empty praise or false comfort in what he's about to say, because doing so would be dishonest before God. He's essentially pledging to tell the truth as he sees it, even if it's uncomfortable, because he believes God holds people accountable for how they speak. There's something earnest here, even if we might not agree with everything Elihu goes on to say, he's at least committed to genuine words rather than telling people what they want to hear.
