What does Job 24:9 mean?
Job is describing the cruelty of those who exploit the most vulnerable people, taking what little the poor have and even robbing children of what they need to survive. The image is stark and uncomfortable because that's the point, he's trying to show us the reality of how harshly some people treat those with no one to protect them. This verse comes as Job wrestles with why evil seems to go unpunished in the world, and he's naming concrete examples of injustice he's witnessed. For us today, it's a reminder to notice when people around us are being squeezed by others in power, and to consider whether we're complicit or whether we can help.
