What does Job 22:12 mean?
Eliphaz is pointing Job toward the vastness of the heavens as evidence of God's greatness, suggesting that God is so distant and exalted that he couldn't possibly care about human affairs or injustice. It's a statement meant to humble Job by reminding him how small and insignificant we are in comparison to God's cosmic grandeur. Yet there's something unsettling about the argument, because it assumes God's transcendence means God's indifference, as though being high above us means God doesn't see or hear what happens below. The beautiful irony, which the rest of Job gradually reveals, is that God's greatness doesn't distance him from our pain but rather gives us hope that someone truly powerful is aware of what we endure.
