What does Job 2:4 mean?

Satan is essentially saying that people will abandon their principles, their relationships, even their integrity if it means saving their own skin. He's challenging God's belief that Job loves him for genuine reasons, suggesting instead that anyone will stay faithful only as long as their comfort and safety are intact. It's a cynical claim that self-preservation always trumps everything else, including faith. This sets up the brutal testing that follows, where Job loses his possessions and health but must decide whether his love for God was ever real.
