Job 16:3
βShall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?β
What does Job 16:3 mean?
Job is asking his friends a frustrated question after they've been offering him platitudes and empty comfort while he suffers. He's essentially saying, "When will you stop speaking meaningless words? What's driving you to keep responding with these hollow phrases?" It's a moment many people in deep pain can recognize, when well-meaning people around us seem more interested in having an answer for everything than in simply sitting with us in our hurt. Job isn't rejecting comfort itself, but rather the kind that feels disconnected from real listening or genuine understanding of what he's going through.
