Job 11:6
“that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.”
What does Job 11:6 mean?
Zophar, one of Job's friends, is trying to comfort him by suggesting that God's wisdom is beyond human understanding, and that Job should trust God knows what he's doing. The harder truth Zophar is hinting at, though, is actually something hopeful: God is showing Job mercy. If God gave people exactly what their sins deserve, we'd all be in far worse shape than we are. In other words, there's grace built into how God relates to us, even when we can't see the full picture of why we're suffering. For anyone wrestling with pain or loss, this verse reminds us that God isn't punishing us with the full weight we might expect, and sometimes there's kindness hidden in what feels like silence.
