What does Job 11:12 mean?
This verse captures something almost paradoxical about human nature: a foolish person might gain wisdom, but it's about as likely as a wild donkey suddenly being born civilized. Job's friend Zophar is essentially saying that some people are so stubborn and unteachable that expecting them to learn is futile, like trying to domesticate an untamed animal at birth. The image of the wild donkey emphasizes something that can't be easily tamed or redirected. Zophar uses this to suggest that certain people are so set in their empty thinking that wisdom will never take root in them, no matter how obvious the truth becomes. It's a frustration we might recognize, whether aimed at ourselves or others, when intelligence and good intentions seem unable to penetrate someone's refusal to listen or change.
